Recently I was contacted by Tom and Poli, a couple who own Casa Verde, a boutique hotel in Santa Marta, Colombia. Seeing that I was arriving in Santa Marta, they graciously offered my friend Vylan and I a room.
I am by no means a hotel critic, but I have stayed in my fair share of hotels over the years and have to say this was one of the nicest rooms/accommodations I have ever been to. From the staff (Juli, Miguel, Juan and support staff ) to the physical building, the experience was absolutely stellar.
The hotel has a very calming and relaxing atmosphere, filled with lots of beautiful plants and other items which subtly speak of Caribbean-Colombian culture. The building is a fully restored, 1920’s built, Republican house. The restoration has been beautifully done, maintaining the buildings historic essence while offering a revitalized elegance and some updated features, such as the tiled jacuzzi in the main courtyard.
The room we stayed in had a silent fan, silent a/c, plenty of natural light, kitchenette, and a bathroom with a really cool natural stone shower.
Breakfast was more or less a traditional Colombian breakfast consisting of arepas, costal cheese, fruit skewers and toast, topped off with freshly made juice and savory Colombian coffee.
All in all I would give Casa Verde a 5-star rating due to their service, friendliness, cleanliness, physical building, amenities, and overall experience. If you’re heading to Santa Marta, Colombia and are looking for a hotel to unwind and relax, one that goes above and beyond to serve you, and isn’t a cookie cutter chain, I highly recommend Casa Verde.
Once again I would love to send a big thanks to Tom, Poli and the team at Casa Verde for their hospitality and the amazing experience. I hope to stay with you guys again.
